The Paris MoU has announced its next three-month Concentrated Inspection Campaign. Here is what masters and ship owners should note:
Period: 1 September – 30 November 2025
Purpose: To verify that ships are in full compliance with the Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM).
Focus areas:
- Valid BWM certification
- Updated Ballast Water Management Plan (BWMP)
- Crew familiarisation and ability to implement BWMP
- Approved and operational BWM system
- Entries in the Ballast Water Record Book (BWRB)
- Management of ballast water sediment
- Valid exemptions (if applicable)
Practical notes:
- Each vessel will be inspected only once under this CIC.
- A predefined questionnaire will be used.
- If deficiencies are found, actions may range from an instruction to rectify within a set period to detention of the vessel.
Recommendations for the Master:
- Ensure that all certificates, records, and documentation are up to date.
- Brief the crew on requirements and operational procedures.
- Review the entire BWMP and confirm full compliance with BWM requirements.
