Faroe Islands drop one place on the Paris MoU White List

08-08-2025

The Faroe Islands have dropped one place on the latest Paris MoU White List — from 29th position in 2023 to 30th in 2024. The White List includes 40 flag States and serves as an important indicator of flag quality in relation to port State control performance.

A flag State’s position on the White List is determined by the number of detentions in proportion to the number of port State control (PSC) inspections over the last three years. Faroese-flagged vessels were detained 6 times during a total of 225 inspections in this period.

Maintaining a spot on the White List is crucial for the Faroese International Ship Register (FAS), as it reflects strong compliance and flag quality. Because fewer ships are registered under the FAS compared to many other registries, each detention affects the overall ranking more significantly.

Faroese shipping companies and operators make strong efforts to ensure that onboard conditions comply with all safety and regulatory requirements. The Faroese Maritime Authority also works continuously to support and uphold flag quality, assisting FAS operators with guidance and resources. Initiatives such as the annual “Ship of the Year” award are part of this effort to encourage excellence in performance and compliance.

No FAS vessel has been detained in 2025. If this positive trend continues, it will have a favourable impact on next year’s ranking on the White List
